Market Signals
Emilio Izquierdo, CEO of the MARAEY Project

When a project like MARAEY is recognized globally, what do you think international capital is seeing in Latin America today that it didn't see before?

The selection of MARAEY as one of the four best projects in the world undoubtedly reinforces, for international capital, the image of Latin America as a region capable of driving projects of global scale, with MARAEY as a benchmark that combines innovation, solid governance, and a long-term vision. This recognition reflects the continuous work to position a transformative tourist destination in Brazil, integrating sustainability, environmental regeneration, education, inclusion, social transformation, and top-tier brands such as Marriott International, Rock in Rio, EHL, BMW, and Siemens.

From a financial point of view, there is also a clear sign of maturity. The unprecedented convergence of three multilateral banks — IFC, IDB Invest, and CAF — supporting the same project strengthens capital structures and broadens the dialogue with qualified investors, both domestic (such as supplementary pension funds) and international, who are currently seeking resilient and well-structured assets with a positive impact.

MARAEY was conceived as a comprehensive project — territory, community, sustainability, and economic development. Is this approach now a competitive advantage or a prerequisite for ventures of this scale to be viable?

When MARAEY began to take shape in 2008, this integrated approach was not a market demand, but a choice. The commitment to sustainability, environmental regeneration, and the integration of the Zacarías community emerged as a genuine initiative, incorporated from the outset as part of the project's value, and not as a regulatory obligation.

Today, this vision has ceased to be a mere competitive advantage and has become an essential condition for the viability of large-scale transformative projects. We are an example for the United Nations Tourism Board of this application, having implemented, for more than a decade, an ESG agenda aligned with the highest standards of responsible investment — requirements that the global market has only begun to adopt.
