Latin America and the Caribbean: The Solid Foundations of a New Growth Cycle in the Hotel Industry
by Arturo Garcia Rosa - President & CEO, SAHIC
The latest Lodging Econometrics report on the hotel construction pipeline in Latin America is more than just a compilation of encouraging figures—it is a clear sign that the region is experiencing a strategic moment, capable of redefining its role in global tourism.
With 751 projects and 116,000 rooms under development, the hospitality sector shows strength and resilience, with double-digit annual growth confirmed across all phases of the portfolio —from hotels under construction to those still in the planning stages. I would highlight the 22% increase in early-stage projects, an indicator of investor confidence and a long-term vision of our region's potential.
These figures tell us something compelling: the future of global hospitality lies in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The boom in luxury and high-end categories confirms that the market is looking for differentiated experiences. Countries such as Mexico, Brazil, and the Dominican Republic lead with robust pipelines, reflecting institutional stability, tourist appeal, and openness to international capital. The same is applies to urban destinations like Mexico City and Lima, which are consolidating their regional prominence.
The forecast of 80 new hotels opening by the end of 2025, and more than 120 planned for 2026, shows that we are not talking about expectations, but about concrete results. As part of a community of investors, operators, and developers driving growth across the region, I see this scenario as a call to action: it is time to accelerate, strengthen alliances, and generate sustainable value.
Hospitality is consolidating its position as an engine of economic, social, and environmental development, and everything indicates that, in this new cycle, Latin America and the Caribbean will cease to be a promise and become an inescapable reality on the global investment map.
See you in Rio de Janeiro!
